Support the Trails at Herne Hill Velodrome —
We’re thrilled to share that long-awaited improvements to the off-road trails at Herne Hill Velodrome are finally scheduled to begin in August, with completion timed perfectly for the start of the upcoming cyclocross season.
This work will bring the existing trails and surrounding areas up to the standard our community needs — while delivering a big boost to local biodiversity. It’s a huge step forward — but like many community-led projects, we’ve hit a bump: rising costs have pushed us over budget. That’s where you come in.
Here’s what’s included:
🌿 Over 420 new trees planted to strengthen the tree canopy and enhance the woodland habitat
🌼 Clearing rubble and reseeding open areas with a meadow mix of grasses and wildflowers to create richer, more diverse green space
🧱 Removing bricks and debris beneath trail surfaces to reduce mechanical issues and improve ride quality
🛠️ Repairing worn sections and slopes, including around Big Bob, to maintain safe and accessible trails
🚿 Upgrading the bike wash area with better rainwater capture and pump system for improved sustainability, with new taps and better and more reliable water pressure across all wash stations
These updates protect the long-term future of the site and will support a wide range of off-road activity, including:
- Public coached MTB and cyclocross sessions for all ages and abilities
- Entry-level and regional cyclocross races
- MTB competitions for beginners and young riders
- Club coaching sessions for HHYCC and others
- School sessions and holiday clubs
