Rachel tries the Rapha Festive 500 at Herne Hill Veledrome in one go

Hi!

I'm Rachel and I'm going to be attempting to cycle the Rapha Festive 500 in one go to raise funds for Herne Hill Velodrome and One More City, a charity campaign supporting research into secondary breast cancer at the Institute of Cancer Research.

Starting on Dec the 27th and finishing some time on the 28th, myself and 9 other people will brave the freezing cold to ride 500km at Herne Hill Velodrome. I'll definitely be digging deep to try and get round all 1,112 laps and would love your support and help in raising some amazing money for these two charities. Any donation, however little or much, is so welcome and appreciated.

Having only really picked up the bike in March 2020, I am well aware that this is going to be a very big challenge. I've also recently been battling through some knee problems so it will be just as much a physical challenge, as it is a mental one. I’d like to thank every single person who supports us in some way, shape or form in this amazing yet really crazy, hypothermia-inducing, frost-biting 500km challenge. Thank you for every single penny that you give and for every single clap, snack and cheer.

As an RCC member, in the words of Rapha... I will do my best to #KeepRiding all 1,112 laps - after which I will be taking a very, very long nap.

Friends of Herne Hill Velodrome

The Friends of Herne Hill Velodrome (FHHV) is an inclusive club and welcomes people of all ages and ability. We are based at the historic, outdoor velodrome in Herne Hill. Our primary purpose is to support the Herne Hill Velodrome through raising and providing funds , organising social events and volunteering. We have over 400 members.

As you would expect the focus is track cycling but there is also is also plenty of participation on and off road. In the coming months we plan to introduce group rides.

We have a thriving social scene with plenty of opportunities to meet and hang out at Jan’s Café in the Herne Hill Velodrome Pavilion after sessions and at other events throughout the year. Everyone is welcome.
