The Festive 500 is an overnight 500km ride at Herne Hill Velodrome in south London on 29-30 December. It's an endurance test (over 1,000 laps of the track!), and it's for two fantastic causes. I'm delighted to have been selected for it and will be raising funds for FHHV and the Gaza Sunbirds.
The Gaza Sunbirds are para-cycling team in the Gaza Strip with a mission to support and train cyclists with disabilities. Since the beginning of the current conflict in October 2023, in which (at the time of writing) over 43,000 Palestinians have been killed and millions forcibly displaced, the Gaza Sunbirds have diverted their efforts towards providing emergency aid for Gaza such as hot meals, food packages and medical essentials. I've felt completely helpless throughout the conflict and the horrific humanitarian situation in Gaza is only continuing to get worse. For me the Festive 500 is an opportunity to change that and put my energy towards a much needed cause.
Herne Hill Velodrome is a special place for me and countless others. I first started riding here in 2016 (having never touched a track bike before), and have since taken up different bike racing disciplines, trained as a track commissaire and coach, and, most importantly, made friends for life. Through the Festive 500 I can give back to a place that's given me so much.
Many thanks in advance for any donations you can give, I really appreciate it!
