500 KM of Hope | Rapha Festive 500 for Community Cycleworks

Story

On 28 Dec 2025 I’m taking on the Rapha Festive 500, that’s 500 km / 1,112 laps at Herne Hill Velodrome, non-stop!

All to raise money for Community Cycleworks, helping young people across South London access bikes, skills + mentoring.

Every lap = a chance for someone new to ride.

Please donate, share, and help me make every kilometre count!

£10 would pay for basic parts for someone struggling to afford a bike repair

£25 would pay for a mechanic to help up to 3 people to fix their own bikes at a Bikefix session

£40 would pay for the lead coach at one of our bike clubs to plan and run a session for 12 young riders using our loan bikes to overcome barriers of bike ownership 

£100 would pay for one girl to join us on a 3 day residential ride. Last year the girls stayed in a real life haunted castle (St Briavels Castle with the YHA) and cycled on the trails of the Forest of Dean. Starting gentle and building up to the skills park and blue downhill track! Fully rigid bikes. On the blue trail from top to bottom. Not many others from diverse backgrounds riding there that day! Love it.

£229 would upgrade one of our fully rigid fleet bikes to a front suspension bike from a quality manufacturer (decathlon).

Friends of Herne Hill Velodrome

The Friends of Herne Hill Velodrome (FHHV) is an inclusive club and welcomes people of all ages and ability. We are based at the historic, outdoor velodrome in Herne Hill. Our primary purpose is to support the Herne Hill Velodrome through raising and providing funds , organising social events and volunteering. We have over 400 members.

As you would expect the focus is track cycling but there is also is also plenty of participation on and off road. In the coming months we plan to introduce group rides.

We have a thriving social scene with plenty of opportunities to meet and hang out at Jan’s Café in the Herne Hill Velodrome Pavilion after sessions and at other events throughout the year. Everyone is welcome.
